Jim Robinson was born on June 14, 1929, in Columbiana, Ohio, and died peacefully in Littleton, Colorado on October 12, 2021, at the age of 92. Raised in a small town in eastern Ohio, he attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in geology. From 1951 to 1954, he served in the United States Army in a survey company that was based at Fort Scott in the Presidio of San Francisco. His unit spent summers mapping the area that now includes Katmai National Park on the Alaska Peninsula. After being honorably discharged, he went to graduate school at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, completing a master’s degree in geology in 1956.
While in Laramie, he met Sarah Frances (Sally) Jackson and they were married on September 4, 1956. He worked as a petroleum geologist for 30 years for Chevron and two smaller oil companies. He and Sally lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado again, southern California, northern California, and settled for good back in Colorado in 1973. They raised three sons and got to know and love four grandchildren. Jim is survived by his son John and his wife Kathy, son Mike and his wife Dawn, granddaughters Jenni and Katie, and grandsons Sam and Mitch. Jim and Sally’s son Tom died in 1985 at the age of 23 and Sally died in 2008.
Jim was a kind-hearted man, very well read on a variety of topics, and had a good sense of humor. He was passionate about running. He completed 22 marathons from 1979 to 2000, including nine New York City Marathons and nine Marine Corps Marathons in Washington, D.C. He delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, often to people that were younger than he was. He was a big fan of the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies and, of course, the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an excellent golfer and he took pride in landscaping his yard with many beautiful flowers. He and Sally took many trips together to places all around the world.
His family feels very fortunate and grateful for his long and well-lived life.
