James ""Jim"" Swiggart, Jr.

November 6, 1949 — November 14, 2018

James Mayes Swiggart, Jr. passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 in the caring hands of his wife, son, and daughter at the Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Known to his family, friends, and peers as Jim, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and generosity.

Jim was born on November 6, 1949 in Nashville, Tennessee to Judge James Mayes Swiggart, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Seward Swiggart. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of nearly 29 years, Stacy Sue Swiggart, and his children, daughter Kylee Ann Swiggart and son James (Jamey) Loran Swiggart.

Jim graduated from Battle Ground Academy in Nashville in 1967, and completed his undergraduate studies at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his Master's Degree in Business Management from Rice University, Jesse Jones Graduate School, in Houston, Texas.

While Jim began playing tennis at the age of 9 years old, he did not start his teaching career until his later years at Vanderbilt in 1969. He spent the following five decades in the tennis industry as a teaching professional, club owner, manager, and broker. His first teaching role was at River Oaks Country Club in Houston. From there, he went on to own his own club, The Champions Racquet Club, and later taught and managed at the Wimbledon Racquet Club. Although tennis defined his career, the sport also shaped his personal and family life. Jim met his wife, Stacy Swanson, while playing against one another on the tennis courts at a USPTA gathering in Texas in the late 1980s. When he had the opportunity to interview to be the Director of Tennis for the newly constructed Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs, it was one he and wife Stacy felt compelled to pursue. They went on to serve the tennis community there for twenty-five years as co-directors. Jim concluded his tennis career and passion for the sport as the Director of Tennis for the Jewish Community Center of Denver.

Throughout his career, Jim was recognized as the USPTA Professional of the Year by both the Texas and Intermountain Divisions, and was ranked #1 in Men's 45, 50, 55, and 60 singles and doubles in the USTA Intermountain Division over 15 times. He and Stacy were two-time National Husband and Wife Champions, and together were ranked #1 in the country in 2017. His most recent competition was in May of 2018, where he and Stacy were runners-up at the Husband & Wife National Clay Court Championships. He has been recognized as the USPTA Manager of the Year, as well as Senior Player of the Year.

Outside of tennis, Jim was an avid golfer, scuba diver, and loved spending as much time as possible with his wife, kids, and friends. He will be missed by many.
