James Martin Vestal

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Martin Vestal, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud retired Air Force veteran. He passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado, holding the hand of his cherished wife of 66 years.

Born on April 4, 1935, in Damascus, Virginia, James served our country with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was deeply committed to his service, which included two tours in Vietnam. Throughout his career, James received numerous accolades for meritorious service, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Soldier’s Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his military career, he continued to serve his country through 35 years of civil service with the United States government.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Andy Lee Vestal Sr. and Georgia Ann Elliott Vestal, as well as his siblings, Andy (Buddy) Vestal Jr., Mary Vestal Parker, Robert (Bobbie) Glenn Vestal, and Carol Ann Vestal Barr.

He is survived by his spouse, Yolande; children, Jimmy and Jacqueline; grandson, James Grieve; grand-daughter-in-law, Casey Grieve; and great-grandchildren, Kalynn Grieve and Alexander Grieve.

A passionate fisherman, James found peace in nature, and his deep devotion to his family, especially to his special needs son, was a defining aspect of his character. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support, he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warrior Project, a cause dear to James.
