James ""Jim"" Bernard Wink

August 30, 1932 — July 6, 2018

James “Jim” Bernard Wink, 85, of Lone Tree, CO, passed away July 6, 2018 at Porter Hospice in God’s hands. Jim was born August 30, 1932 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Edward Theobold Wink and Frieda “Augusta” Bertke Wink. Jim was an apprentice to his dad who built houses (including the Jim’s childhood home) and became a master carpenter, building beautiful furniture and other household items. A beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and uncle, Jim was happiest when surrounded by family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane, of Lone Tree, CO; daughters: Kathleen Wink of Littleton, CO, Karen Wink of Mystic, CT, and Paula Brucker of NY, NY; grandchildren Cameron, Donovan, Lily, and Jake of NY, NY; sister Antoinette (the late Ray) Ebelhar of Owensboro, KY; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Margaret Wink Hermann (Thomas), Erma Jean Wink Thielen (Frank), and Doris Ann Wink Everly–all of Owensboro, KY.

Jim served in the Air Force during the Korean War as Airman First Class, and later attended University of Dayton on the G.I. Bill. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and an M.B.A. at U.D. He worked most of his successful and fulfilling career at General Electric and later at “Wink & Associates,” as his own boss consulting with several electrical companies. Jim and Jane called Mentor, Ohio their home for 30 wonderful years. They lived there 30 years to the month of June. After that time, they moved to Lone Tree, Colorado to be closer to family and grandchildren.

The stock market will miss its devoted player; the Wall Street Journal, its reader; Sudoku puzzles, their thinker, golf courses, their sweet swinger; and crime mysteries, their solver. A legendary “DIY” handyman, Jim never met a broken home project he could not repair. He took special care to help many family and friends–and wanted no credit in return. He enjoyed time with friends–hosting neighborhood picnics and attending reunions (at his 50th high-school one, his classmates bestowed the “Least Changed Physically” award on him). Mostly, he loved stories–making them, telling them, and listening to them. May he do all three in heaven while drinking his favorite Kentucky Bourbon.
