James "Jim" Lampson

1945 — January 1, 2021

Denver

Jim was born in Denver on October 6, 1945 to J. Calvin and Lovetta Lampson.   He spent his early years in Manitou Springs which taught him a love of the mountains.  He enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping and skiing for many years.

When his family moved to Lakewood he started playing sports, competing in football, basketball and track--basketball being his favorite.  He played all three for Wheatridge High School, graduating in 1963, the year they won the state high school basketball  championship.

He continued his education at Mesa College and the University of Colorado, graduating in 1969.

A few years after he decided the stock market fascinated him, and in 1971 he received his securities license.  Jim enjoyed working with both his clients and colleagues in the exciting, sometimes frustrating  world of the markets.

On October 5, 1993 the Wall Street Journal named him the top performing portfolio manager for the quarter.

On November 8, 1969, he and Loralee Stauter were married.  It was a beautiful day, the only weekend it didn't snow for two months.  They were married for 52 years and totally enjoyed their time together.  They had no children but loved and valued all their many siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.

They were fortunate to experience going to new places.  Even though he got to see some wonderfully exotic places, his favorite vacation place was Long Island,  New York at a summer cottage on Little Peconic Bay for a regular family vacation that he relished.

He was a fearless and creative chef, turning out egg rolls that could rival the finest Chinese restaurants.  He made the absolute best peanut brittle and everyone looked forward to getting it at the holidays.

He was the eternal optimist with a marvelous laugh.  It made his day if he could make someone else laugh.

He is so missed.

A celebration of Jim being Jim will be held at a future date.
