Jan E. Clower

Janet “Jan” Clower, 70, of Arvada, Colorado (formerly of Taylorville, IL) passed away Friday morning, December 27, 2019 at 7:39am at a Colorado hospital from complications of surgery. Her husband and three children were by her side when she passed.

She was born November 17, 1949; the daughter of James M. Smith and Theresa E. (Durbin) Smith. She lived in Taylorville where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Taylorville High School, class of 1967. She worked several years at Liberty Mutual Company in Taylorville.

She married Jerry Clower, her high school sweetheart, on December 21, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. They settled in Colorado where she has lived for 40 years. Jan enjoyed camping and boating, sewing, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and traveling. She became president of the Historical Society in Fort Lupton, Colorado, where she and Jerry were active in restoring the fort and planning functions there for the community. She made many friends, and will be greatly missed by all.

Jan is survived by her spouse, Jerry; children, Dan (Lorry), Kendra (Scott), Justin (Jessica); granddaughter, Kaiya; grandsons, Corvin, Devlyn, Liam and Boston; brother, James “Bo” (Gail) Smith of Decatur, IL.; sisters, Tina Eblin of Taylorville, Nancy Smith of Taylorville; nieces, Lela Mundhenke of Taylorville, Rachel Smith Treece of Raymond, Ill.; and four great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 1pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80003. She will be cremated and brought back to Illinois for service and burial later in the spring. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery, Morrisonville, Illinois.
