Jane Marie Hoerner

July 13, 1921 — March 8, 2016

Jane Marie Hoerner passed away March 8, 2016. Jane was born July 13, 1921 in Goshen, NY to Frank and Margaret Kearns. Jane was Frank and Maggie's third child. Her siblings and their spouses: Catherine (Kearns) (Joe) Currao, Frank (Kay) Kearns (Jane's twin brother), and Joseph (Amelia) Kearns preceded Jane in death. The daughter of a railroad telegrapher and a homemaker, Jane moved with her family to different burgs in upstate New York during her childhood. Jane completed high school and worked for Western Union. While working at Western Union, Jane met Bruce Schoonmaker. Jane and Bruce were married many happy years. With the marriage to Bruce, Jane added Kenneth Schoonmaker as her step-son to her family. Kenneth married Pat Schoonmaker and they had two children, Eric Eden and Amy Schoonmaker, who are Jane's grandchildren. Eric is the proud parent of Jane's only great-grandchild, Eleanor. Bruce built homes in the Newburgh, New Windsor, and Middletown areas of New York. Jane attended interior decorating school and helped Bruce in the staging and selling of homes. Jane and Bruce traveled extensively. They also started the BJ Ranch in Sarasota, FL. Jane and Bruce loved to entertain family, friends, and business associates. Jane stayed in the New Windsor area for several years after Bruce's passing. She volunteered at the local hospital as a pink lady. Jane continued to spend many happy times with her family and friends in New Windsor. In the fall of 1979, Jane met Gideon ""Gid"" Mayfield. Gid was scouting the New Windsor area for a location for his daughter's wedding with his good friend Wes Smith. Wes and Gid stopped at Jane's house for a break from the hunt. Gid was smitten very quickly with Jane's loving nature and kind heart. Gid pursued Jane until she agreed to marry him in November 1981. Jane moved to Denver, CO with her marriage to Gid. With the marriage of Gid, Jane gained two step-children, Ann (Mayfield) Bandel (deceased) and Chris Mayfield. Ann and Pete Bandel gave Jane and Gid a wonderful grandson, Peter Jr. Jane was thrilled to have another grandson and spent as much time as possible with Peter in his early years. Jane and Gid also traveled. They enjoyed golf and entertaining friends and family. Gid passed away suddenly from a heart attack after only four years of marriage. Jane stayed in Denver after Gid passed away. She continued to develop her golfing skills and became an excellent bridge player. Jane was considering moving back to Goshen, when her best friend, Marsha Slinkard, introduced Jane to John ""Jack"" Hoerner. Jane and Jack started to date and were married January 1988. Jane and Jack shared a special love that only comes with age and experience. It was a blessing to see them together. With Jane's marriage to Jack, she gained three more step-children: Tim (Marylu Cianciolo) and daughter Helen; Pam (Dave Anderson deceased) and Julie (Art) Mowry. Jane will be remembered for many things, most especially, for her devotion to her family, including many special nieces and nephews, her deep Catholic faith and her ability to bring out the best in people. She loved to laugh and dance. She enjoyed music, movies, and the theater. There will be a viewing March 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on March 18 at 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 S. Sheridan Blvd. The Committal service will occur in New Windsor, NY. Jane is predeceased by her parents, siblings, their spouses, and her spouses.
