Jane Meyer Reilly
February 10, 1930-August 30, 2023
Jane Meyer Reilly was born in Watervliet, New York on February 10, 1930 to Rose Barbara Mittlested and Herman George Meyer and passed away at 93 years old on August 30, 2023 in Littleton, Colorado.
She grew up in Watervliet, NY and graduated from Watervliet High School. After high school, she held a clerical position with the State of New York. In 1951, her world opened up when she was accepted in Stewardess School for American Airlines. As a stewardess in the golden area of flying, Jane was based at LaGuardia Airport in New York where she lived with a group of stewardesses who became her lifetime friends. As a stewardess, she saw the country and met many famous and interesting people. While living in New York, she met the love of her life, Edward Reilly. They were married on October 24, 1953 at St. Patrick's Church in Watervliet. Although at that time, marriage meant the end of Jane's stewardess career, she continued to work for American Airlines in General Operations until she and Ed moved to Hartford, Connecticut in July 1954. In Connecticut, Jane and Ed's four children, Edward Jr., Ellen, Christopher and Gregory, we're born. Jane became deeply engaged in community activities as a School Board candidate and Chairman of the Annual Heart Drive. She and her husband helped build and develop Glenbrooke Swim Club, which became the families summer social activity for years. Jane was a great entertainer and their Annual NewYears Eve party was a command performance that attracted mayors, legislators and entrepreneurs. In Hartford, Jane joined the Kiwi Club, which is an organization for "retired" stewardesses that engage in charitable service and social activity. The Kiwi Club and the many Kiwis that Jane met through the years has been an
important part of her life. She remained an active Kiwi throughout her many moves and until her passing.
In 1971, the family moved to Dunwoody, Georgia and then Wheaton, Illinois before settling into their home of 47 years in Littleton, Colorado. In Denver, they became avid fans of the Rockies, Nuggets and their beloved Broncos. In Denver, Jane continued to be very active with the Kiwis, as well as helping to establish a passenger service program for American Airlines at Stapleton Airport and Denver International Airport. She worked as a Tour Director for Maritz and S & H Travel. She was a Real Estate agent for 20 years. Jane had a special way of connecting with people and welcoming them into her family. In addition to taking in students and athletes from out of town, her Thanksgiving dinners hosted musicians, professional athletes and was welcome to anyone that needed a place to go. This generosity and welcoming spirit followed her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her beloved son Gregory.
She is survived by her son Edward Jr. (Joanne) of Bronxville, NY; daughter Ellen Dawe (Richard) of Sugarloaf Key, Fl.; son Christopher Reilly (Tina) of Littleton, CO. Grandchildren Edward III, Kathryn, Jennifer, Michael, Jack, Elle, Meghan, Nicholas; step-grandchildren Heidi, Tiffany and Toni Dawe; 19 great-grandchildren.
