Janet Elizabeth Hartley Humphreys passed away April 20, 2016 surrounded by her family. Janet was born January 9, 1931 in Billings, Montana to William S. and Ruth Jerome Hartley. She graduated from Billings Central High School in 1949 and attended Eastern Montana College's pre nursing program. She moved to Denver, Colorado in 1951 and attended the University of Colorado school of Nursing earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1954. In 1983 she earned her Masters of Psychiatric Nursing degree from the University Of Colorado School Of Nursing. She married John A. Humphreys III M.D. August 31, 1952 in Billings, MT. He survives. John and Jan had a wonderful, thoughtful and strong partnership for more than 63 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Ruth and Joan. Her brother Kerm Hartley survives in Los Angeles, CA. Jan was a devoted wife and mother. Her children are John (Debbie) Humphreys (Henderson, Co), Scott (Cathy) Humphreys (Littleton, CO), Gaye (Jim) Aaberg (Bloomington, IL). She has six grandchildren, Dana (Kyle) Williams, (Denver, Co), Sarah (Patrick) Weeg, (Denver, CO), Seth Humphreys (Denver, CO), Kim (Ian) Trowell, (Parker, CO), Jackson Aaberg (Indianapolis, IN) Grant Aaberg, (Bloomington, IL). She has 4 precious great-grandchildren, Cade Humphreys (Denver, Co) Eliana, Levi, and Grace Trowel! (Parker, Co). She has two step grandchildren Joseph Caldara (Denver, CO) and Jeni Caldara, (Lafayette, CO). Jan was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over 40 years ago. With great strength and determination she worked to learn all she could about the disease and was an Education Director for Parkinson's Association of the Rockies. Jan was a talented poet and published a book of her poetry for all to enjoy ""Dancing in the Circle"". She touched so many people with her poetry, and she will live on through this body of work. Jan was a member of First Plymouth Church since 1958. She celebrated her faith daily, serving others was important to her and is a great legacy she passes to all who knew her. She traveled with other First Plymouth members in the 1980s to the Dominican Republic to bring medical care and education to their underserved population. Jan had a keen sense of humor, and a courageous sense of adventure which touched everyone who met her. She loved nature and explored all the beauty of the great outdoors of her beloved Colorado and Montana. She traveled extensively with John, her family and friends. Jan will be dearly missed by her life partner, John, her children and friends but we all celebrate in the joy of life she shared with everyone who knew her. A celebration of life will be Saturday May 14, 2016 at 11 am First Plymouth Congregational Church 3501 S Colorado Blvd. Cherry Hills Village, CO. Her family wants to thank all of the wonderful staff at Holly Creek who cared for her and continue to care for John, Kristin Zeid PT, and the compassionate staff of Aviant Hospice, Patricia Moxham-Fisher, NP of Centura Health Physicians Group, Dr. Rajeev Kumar of Rocky Mountain MDC and his staff, Dr. Karen Theriot, and Rev. George Anastos and all their friends of First Plymouth Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jan's memory to the Parkinson's Association of the Rockies, First Plymouth Congregational Church, Children's Hospital Denver, CO in honor of her grandson Cade Humphreys, or University of Colorado School of Nursing.
