Janet Morgan, age 93, died in Lakewood, Colorado on February 3, 2025. She was born Janet Thompson in St. Joseph, Missouri, and grew up on a farm outside Amity, about 35 miles northeast of St. Joseph. She graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas in 1953 with a major in elementary education. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority and stayed in close contact with many of her sorority sisters throughout her life.
Jan was a lifelong teacher and learner. She started her teaching career in Denver at Bryant Webster Elementary and taught for many years in Sioux City, Iowa, before moving back to the Denver area in 1987. She especially loved helping children learn to read. Even after her retirement, she volunteered as a reading tutor.
She also loved music and attended many performances over the years. Her radio was always tuned to classical music, and she sang in choirs starting in college and continuing through her senior years with the Trinity UMC choir. She played tennis into her eighties and enjoyed all the friendships she made through her various interests.
Jan is survived by her brother, Al Thompson; her children, Gordon McLaughlin and Cathlin Parker; her niece and nephews, Karis Ambrosier and Robert and Matthew Thompson; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Carrol McLaughlin, Chuck Beck, and Keith Morgan; her brother, Robert Thompson; her nephew, Aaron Ambrosier; and her sister, Jeanne Ambrosier.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver at 10:00 am on March 8, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to your favorite charity in Jan’s name.
