Janice L. Blackie

July 29, 1927 — August 11, 2012

Janice Lee Hinderliter Blackie departed this life at the age of 85, August 11, 2012 in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Daughter of Alma Alvina Stein and Benjamin Franklin Hinderliter, she was born in Athens, Michigan, in 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ian Gordon Blackie, in 1995. She is survived by her two daughters, Heather Blackie Davis of Colorado, and Barbara Blackie of California, as well as her two cherished grandchildren, Adam Benjamin Davis and Elise Catherine Davis. Jan was always active in her community, serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, and even Precinct Committeewoman. She was proud of her Past President pin from the American Business-women's Association. She worked as a legal secretary, a real estate secretary, and retired from Montgomery Elevator. For years she volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis (the place that had taken such good care of her husband), working with patients there and in the Hospice. She taught her daughters to admit when they had made a mistake, to remember those who were less fortunate, and to be good neighbors. She organized countless dinners, birthday and holiday parties, baked dozens upon dozens of cookies, and kept a spotless house. She will be missed and loved always.
