In Loving Memory of Janice Colleen Geist
October 5, 1938 ~ Novb
Janice was born in Crawford County, Iowa, the oldest of two children born to William and Rosa Borgstahl. Her younger brother, Ronald, joined the family two years later, and together they served on their family farm for countless years on the outskirts of western Iowa. Finishing high school in 1956, Jan pursued a three-year nursing program and received her RN certification. She eagerly drove west to the big city of Denver to begin her nursing career. She met a handsome young man in Denver at the Walther League in 1961, and they began dating and attending church together at St. John's Lutheran Church. Eldon and Jan were married on September 10, 1961. They bought a new house in Lakewood, Colorado, which became the home where they would raise their four children: Cindy, Andy, and the twins Susan and Juli. Family and motherhood were the focal point of Jan's life as she lovingly spent countless hours nurturing and loving her children. From 4-H events, to band concerts, sports and church activities, Jan was always running someone around and loved serving her family. Many vacations were taken with her brother's family to Disneyland, Washington DC, and the yearly trek to Lake Okoboji in northwestern Iowa, which was the family favorite. Holidays and birthdays were another important time when Jan honored those whom she so dearly loved, always finding the time to prepare beef stroganoff, her world-famous Watergate salad, and a homemade cake with chocolate cooked icing. She loved to cook and made everyone feel welcome at her table. Jan prepared a homemade meal each night, while always having a dessert to top it off... which remains Eldonâs favorite part of any meal today. As the years passed and the children grew, Jan returned to nursing in 1983 until her retirement in 2008. She devoted her time to sewing Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, gardening, as well as baking. Our mother enjoyed her flower gardens, making pancakes on Saturdays, drinking tea after dinner, leisurely walks through the neighborhood, and lunch with friends. Jan was a devout Christian her entire life, and she and Eldon were charter members of Concordia Lutheran Church. She served in a variety of capacities over the years and especially enjoyed her work with the Altar Guild. Jan and Eldon were delighted to welcome fourteen grandchildren into the family. Jan was always available for her children as they too became young parents. She loved serving the Lord, serving her family, and enjoying life! On a beautiful November evening with a full moon shining brightly in the sky, Janice gave up her spirit to her precious friend, Lord, and Savior after a long battle with various physical ailments. Battle over, eternity won! Charitable donations can be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
