Janice W. Sullivan

November 4, 1931 — April 12, 2011

Janice W. Sullivan died early Tuesday morning, April 12th 2011. She was the daughter of Frank C. and Alma Lee Walz, sister of Frank C. Walz Jr. She was the wife of William Eberly Sullivan, mother of Lori Lynne Sullivan Worthman and Michael Dan Sullivan, grandmother of Brendan Liam Sullivan, Morgan Soibhan Sullivan, Danielle Rose Worthman, Shannon Francis Worthman and Andrew Joseph Worthman. Jan was a founder of the Musical Theatre Department at Loretto Heights College, and an Associate Professor of voice at the University of Brigham Young. She performed in France, Switzerland, Germany, England, Alaska, Massachusetts and Colorado, such roles as Violetta in La Traviata, Mimi in La Boheme, and Cho-Cho-San in Madama Butterfly. She held a BFA in Music Education and an MFA in Voice Performance. Jan developed a technique for producing the contemporary 'Belt' voice safely and in conjunction with the classical voice. Her textbook, 'The Phemonema of the Belt/Pop Voice,' is used in many universities and studios around the country. She was a passionate, compassionate, artistic, joyful spirit, great listener, gifted teacher, loyal friend, and devoted mother and wife. She was fierce and tender in her expectations of those around her and would accept only the best we were capable of. She loved bright rich color and sparkle and laughter, big jewelry, water skiing, camping, traveling, sewing, painting, basking in the glory of Hawaiian sunsets and of course, always ' singing. Even in these last years through the fog of Alzheimer's, music brought life and recognition to her eyes and the clearest pieces of memory she could communicate. Jan Sullivan's talent and heart will live on through generations of teachers and students, family and friends. She gave voice to our hearts. Funeral Service, Wednesday, April 20, 11:00am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood. Interment Wednesday, 12:30pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
