Janie Pollard

January 30, 1930 — September 10, 2010

Janie McElroy began life on January 30, 1930 in the small cotton-farming community of Maypearl, Texas. Youngest daughter of nine children, her parents, Henry and Hattie, raised cotton and kids during the heart of the Great Depression. Her family moved to the larger metropolis of Venus, Texas upon her entry into high school. Upon graduation, Janie became a ""Career"" girl in Dallas, working as a book keeper at and insurance company. During this time she was set up on a blind date with a gentleman from a neighboring community by the name of Billy Pollard, a near 59 year relationship began. They were married on December 22, 1951. Over the next decade Adelia, Glenda, and Joe were born, and Janie emerged as a nurturing mother and supportive wife, as Bill's career took them from Dallas, to Houston, and finally Littleton. Her years as a homemaker allowed her to develop her skills as a wonderful cook and an accomplished embroiderist. Her needlework adorns the homes of many family member and friends. After Billy's retirement, the couple purchased a motor home and ""hit the road"", traveling through many parts of the country. However, Janie also said that the times they spent on Lake Dillon were among the happiest of their lives. Other ""happiest"" times were the births of grand daughters Leah and Charlotte and Billy and Janie traveled many miles over the years to watch those girls grow up. Unfortunately, at the turn of the century, Janie's health began failing, and although the travels came to an end, Janie continued to take her greatest pleasure in the companionship of her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her many dear relatives and friends. Janie's greatest heartache was the untimely death of her son Joe in 2005. Janie's health battles ended on September 10, 2010 at Porter Hospice. The twinkle in her eyes, her dry wit, and her beautiful smile will remain in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her forever. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at Columbine United Church, 6375 South Platte Canyon Road, Littleton, Colorado 80123 on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Memorial Donations can be made to Porter Hospice, 1391 North Speer Boulevard, Suite 600, Denver, Colorado 80204.
