Janis L. Coursey

October 27, 1940 — November 5, 2012

Born on October 27th, 1940 on the plains of Oklahoma, Janis Blackburn Coursey grew up in Enid, with her sister Judy and her parents Richard and Jewell Blackburn. There she graduated from Enid High School in 1958. After studying nursing in St.Louis, MO Janis was a registered nurse first in California, and then in Denver, where she met her husband Nathan Coursey. Married in 1972, Janis and Nathan spent 40 years together in their home in Park Hill, Denver, where they raised their four children, Rebecca, Mara, Leah and Jae. Over the years she wore many hats outside her home, including owning a small children's boutique for over 25 years. However, her deepest and most profound calling in life was her role as mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren, Alex, Eliot, Gavin, Blake, Jadeyn and Kaius, were her pride and joy; the devotion and care she showed them defined who she was. Janis had a huge heart and a profound belief in the goodness and potential of anyone, especially of her beloved children and grandchildren. She supported them, hoped for them, and encouraged them always, and in this love they were nourished and nurtured. Janis will be greatly missed by her family, but those who knew her will continue to experience her love and support in the memories of their lives with her. Services 11:00 AM Saturday, St. Martin's Chapel at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, Denver.
