Jayson D. Smith

October 14, 1969 — February 22, 2009

Jayson Smith, 39, of Broomfield, passed away February 22, 2009 at St. Joseph's hospital after a short and hard fought battle with Leukemia. Jayson is survived by his wife of 18 years and two children, KayLee 12, and Kyle 9. Son of Nancy Weller and Victor and Jane Smith and brother to Jodi Eychner and Jarid Smith. Brother In-Law to Eric Eychner, Traci Smith, Chip Swan and Kari Starks. Uncle to seven nieces; Ashlee, Haylee, Mylee, Emilee, MacKenzie, Kaycee, and Taniya. Jayson, a native of Colorado, grew up in Arvada, graduated from Arvada High School in 1988 and completed his degree in business and psychology at the University of Northern Colorado. He started his business career as a manager for Kmart which took him and Kristi to California. Upon finding out he was to be a father to his first child, KayLee, he promptly put family first and left California and those long hours to return to his beloved Colorado where he started working in the family business. Wally's Quality Meats, which he worked with his mother, Nancy, and brother, Jarid, was his pride and joy, rivaled only by his love for his children. Before being diagnosed with this horrible cancer, Jayson could be found rink and court side cheering on his kids and loving every minute of it. Outside of work and his children, Jayson loved to play golf and poker. His family and friends will always remember him cooking up something for an army of people on his Traeger grill, talking crap on the golf course, or of course his famous hand pump when he just won a huge hand in poker.
