On December 5, 2020, Jean B. Bahr, mother and educator, passed away at the age of 92 in Littleton, Colorado.
Jean was born on October 4, 1928 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, to Ralph and Dorothea Ostermayer Blaney. She graduated from Penn State University and earned a master's degree in education from George Washington University. In 1955, Jean married Jerome Bahr, a writer, and together they raised three sons, Robert, Nicholas, and Antony.
Jean was a dedicated teacher who taught elementary school in the Santa Fe, New Mexico, public school system for many years. She volunteered for the International Reading Association and the American Association of University Women. An avid reader, Jean enjoyed a wide variety of literature. She was an intrepid world traveler, visiting dozens of countries and nearly every continent. She enjoyed spending summers in Maine and was an avid skier for many years. Jean and Jerome raised a family in Berlin, Germany, while the Wall was being constructed at the height of the Cold War.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Patricia. Jean is survived by her three children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A memorial service in Santa Fe will be held at a later date.
