Jean L. Chinburg

April 12, 1925 — November 10, 2013

Jean L. Chinburg was born on April 12, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Pauline and Charles O'Connell. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother, Minnie Sellers, in Kearney, Nebraska. She graduated with honors from Nebraska Weslyan University in 1946 and married Kenneth Chinburg, a psychiatrist, later that year. They had three children: Valerie, who passed away, Ted and Scott. Jean and her family settled in Littleton, Colorado. Jean finished her master's degree in social work in 1971 and practiced for many years. After she and Ken divorced in 1980, she moved to Nebraska for three years before returning to the Denver area. In the 1980's and 1990's she continued her social work practice and an active social life with her many friends and family members. She was very fond of dancing and poker with her longtime companion, Gaston Santi. She was a member of Mensa for many years. She is survived by her sons, Ted and Scott, her grandsons Dan and Bill, her great grandson Leo, and many close friends, including Lolly Smith, Dazzie Edwards, Deanna Dahl and Bert Paredes. A public visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (One block west of Holly Street) in Centennial. Jean will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Burt County, Nebraska. Please share your memories of Jean and condolences with her family by signing the guestbook.
