Jeanie Johnson

March 31, 1950 — November 8, 2019

On Friday, November 8th, Jeanie Johnson, beloved wife, loving mother, dedicated grandma, friend, and temple ordinance worker, returned to her heavenly home after suffering injuries from a fall; she was 69. At the time of her death, she was serving as a missionary in Denmark, the land of her ancestors.

Jeanie was born March 31, 1950, to Russel and Erma Roper of Vallejo, California, where she was raised. She lived her life full of love for her children, grandchildren, many friends, music, travel, guitar playing, good books, sewing, and service in the restored church of Jesus Christ. All her life she loved nature, camping, growing flowers and plants, and the outdoors; her home in the mountains of southern Colorado was a source of much joy in her later years.

Jeanie worked for years as a labor and delivery nurse, and later as a nurse practitioner for women's health as a caring servant for women and their families. She volunteered thousands of hours in church service as a primary teacher, Cub Scout leader, and temple ordinance worker. Her adult years were spent in Houston, Texas; Vallejo, California; Denver and southern Colorado; and the Navajo Nation in Tsaile, Arizona. She is a breast cancer survivor. In retirement, she was thrilled by a call to serve a mission with her husband to the Copenhagen Denmark Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jeanie was preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Peter Ricks, John (Mandy) Ricks, James (Jennifer) Ricks, Mark Ricks and Marc (Dreama) Johnson; brother, Paul (Delpha) Roper; grandchildren, Anna, Jason, William, Daniel, Oliver, Natalie, Lincoln and Charlotte; and a host of long-time friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, November 22, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 740 Hudson Street, Denver, CO 80220. A visitation will be held at the Church just prior to the service, from 10:00-10:45 am.

Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, immediately following the service at the Church.

Flowers or donations may be sent to the Church the morning of the service or to Horan & McConaty at 11150 East Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, Colorado the day prior. Or, in lieu of flowers, you can make a personal donation in Jeanie’s name to a humanitarian aid organization such as give.lds.org/humanitarian, as she has done regularly for many years.
