Jeanne Peacock passed away on August 13, 2009, after having a stroke. She is survived by her eight child-ren, six grandchildren and her younger sister Henrietta Darnel. We truly believe that she has joined her beloved husband, John Roger, who died in 1964. Born in 1926, she was raised on her parents' small farm outside of Kirksville, Missouri. Being an adventurous soul, she left the farm at age 17 to study nursing in St. Louis, where she made life-long friends among her classmates. After graduating, she took the civil service exam and flew to Panama to work as a nurse at Gorges Hospital in the Canal Zone. She loved Panama, a wild place filled with interesting people, wildlife, and weather! Here she met John Roger Peacock, a U.S. Air Force pilot stationed in the Canal Zone, who was the love of her life. They married in 1950 and being good Catholics, they had eight children together. The growing family moved from Panama to California, back to Panama, on to Mississippi, and then finally to Denver. Jeanne, as she liked to be called, was an avid reader who spent her adult life exploring new ideas. She loved to talk politics. She also loved the Botanical Gardens and the Denver Zoo, where she took her grand-children. Jeanne was a devout Catholic. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, August 17, 2009, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1973 Elm St., Denver. She will be buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery next to her husband. May she rest in peace.
