Jeannette Simpson

December 24, 1930 — February 22, 2022

Jeannette H. Simpson passed Beautifully and Peacefully from this world into the presence of Jesus February 22, 2022.  She was 91.  Born December 24, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey to Ralph V. Simpson and Renabelle Montonya Simpson.  The 5th of 9 children, she was preceded in death by her parents and 6 of her siblings.  Survived by 2 sisters, Renabelle Brown of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Peggy Jankunas of Hamilton, Montana.  Sister-In-Law, Ann Marie Simpson of Budd Lake, New Jersey and numerous Nieces & Nephews.  She never had children of her own but as her young nephew, Dale, once told her “You don’t need children you have us!” And she did.  Aunt Jeannette’s visits were always anticipated with much excitement…. she was simply ‘magical!!

Her life took her to many places beginning in her teen years.  As a nanny in Bremen, Indiana she began her journey as a devout Catholic.

Aunt Jeannette was a loving Daughter, Beautiful Sister, and amazing Aunt and a true friend throughout her life.

She did factory work, worked in McCrory’s 5 & 10 in Newark, she also worked in hospitals as a ward clerk in Utah, Texas, and California.  She settled in Palm Springs, California in the 1970’s where she became a licensed massage therapist and was self employed for years with dedicated customers that loved her dearly.

Aunt Jeannette loved Photography, Calligraphy, Swimming, Traveling, Cooking, Baking, Family time, an had a great love for our country.  She was an extremely accomplished Seamstress making many nightgowns, pajamas, and aprons for her nieces and nephews.  She was one of the most creative people I’ve ever known!

Her desire in life was always to become a Nun in the Church and to serve, but due to health issues she was unable to totally achieve that.  She did become a Postulant with the Handmaids of The Precious Blood in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.  She cherished her time there immensely.

She had the beautiful experience of living in Hawaii for almost 3 years with her nephew Ralph and his Family.  Many memories were made there that she loved.

The last 27 years she has been a resident at The Little Sisters of the Poor Mullen home in Denver, Colorado.  She absolutely loved it there.  She became a huge Rockies Baseball fan and had the pleasure of attending numerous games with other residents.  Her love for the sisters and the friendships that she made filled her life with so much joy!

In 1994, Aunt Jeannette had the privilege of going on an amazing retreat to Lourdes, France with some of the sisters, employees, and residents.  She never stopped expressing how meaningful that was to her.

In 2007, Aunt Jeannette took herself on a ’40 Day Train Trip’ through-out the country.  She visited many convents that welcomed her with personalized welcome signs that she saved, she visited Family & Friends as well.  She documented the entire trip daily in a journal and through photos….it was truly another highlight of her adventurous life!

The Mullen Home allowed Aunt Jeannette the freedom to be herself, be independent and still be surrounded by that spiritual atmosphere that she loved.

Aunt Jeannette’s passing, though sad, was filled with so much Love, Peace, and Tranquility and was such a beautiful moment to be a part of.  I, her niece Jen-Jen, am so blessed to have been with her as she transitioned from this life to the arms of Jesus.

Many Thanks and Love to the Little Sisters, the medical staff, administrative staff, the Residents, Jean, Judy, Veronica, Lynn, and all others at the Mullen Home that shared their lives with her.

Aunt Jeannette’s outlook on life was so positive.  She always said “Don’t look back on life with sadness and regret for what you didn’t do…. look at what you did do and accomplished and say ‘I did it!”

Here’s a big hug from the #1 Rockies Fan to all of you!!
