Jeffrey Donald MacQueen, 65, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away August 29, 2020. Our hearts are broken at his sudden and unexpected departure. Jeff was born July 7, 1955 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Donald K. and Ethel Jo Eubanks MacQueen.
In 1973, Jeff graduated from Sooner High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Geology at the University of Oklahoma in 1977. Jeff married Jane Woody in 1978 and he continued his education with a Doctorate in Geophysics from the University of Washington in 1982. Jeff and Jane then moved to Dallas, Texas as Jeff began his career in exploration geophysics. His expertise in the field of exploration was a gravimetry, and he was particularly known for his deep knowledge and experience in airborne, absolute, and borehole gravity measurement. Jeff and Jane moved to Denver and Patricia Grace was born there in 1989. The young family moved to Houston in 1992 and returned to Denver in 2000 with two more children, Katherine Jane and Donald Robert, born in 1997.
Jeff enjoyed playing French horn and performed with Hope Brass at Hope United Methodist Church and the Parker Symphony Orchestra. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a youth and also as an adult leader with his son, Don. Jeff enjoyed supporting the activities of his children in music and dance, and by volunteering with neighborhood swim teams and the Cherry Creek High School marching band. He loved the outdoors, especially rock climbing and hiking. The family has many wonderful memories of vacation travel to national parks including Yellowstone and the Tetons and very special times at the family cabin in Westcliffe, Colorado. In quieter moments, he was often seen enjoying a hefty book of history. His humor was bone-dry, yet gentle and loving, and ever present.
Jeff is survived by his loving family: wife, Jane Woody MacQueen; children, Patricia ‘Tricia’ MacQueen (husband, Leo Sack); Donald ‘Don’ MacQueen and Katherine ‘Katie’ MacQueen; one sister, Kay MacQueen Neldon (husband, Mike Neldon); and one brother, Bruce MacQueen (wife, Veronika). Preceded in death by his parents Ethel and Donald MacQueen.
