Jennie Viola Lopez

Jennie Viola Lopez, age 92, died peacefully in her home in Denver, Colorado on Thursday, February 18th, 2016, after a short illness. Born on January 4th, 1924 in Alamosa, CO, Jennie, as a young wife and mother, moved to Denver in early 1940. She secured various entry level positions in laundry facilities until she gained enough knowledge and experience to secure a position as a laundry manager and care giver at Bella Vita Towers until retiring in 1996. Jennie was a long time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish where her children attended Sunday School and she volunteered on various occasions. Jennie was a loving wife, mother and friend. Many found her humor and kindness to be just the formula to ease a troubled mind. She loved working her garden and took great satisfaction in growing her own tomatoes, zucchini, corn and other vegetables. She also took great care to tend her rose garden which, every year, would produce beautiful roses of all colors. A fresh rose bouquet was usually present on her kitchen or patio table. Above all, Jennie had a love and trust in God that gave her courage, strength and a love of life. In quiet moments she could usually be found praying the rosary or praying for her family or a special friend. Jennie was loved and will be dearly missed by so all whose lives she has touched. Jennie is survived by her four daughters, Rita Peck, Cathy Motley (Bill Motley), Sally Lopez-Sanchez, and Judy Rodgers (Gary Rodgers), her brother, Alfonso DeHerrera and her sister Mary Lucero, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Steven Lopez, brothers Lawrence and Charlie, sisters Bernice, Elsie and Adeline. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 25 also at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment will be at 12:15 pm Thursday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
