Jennie, 79, passed away on July 9, 2014. She would have celebrated her 80th birthday just 23 days later on August 1st. She is survived by her children Cindy (Dod) Reaves and Michael (Cathie) Del Toro; grandchildren, Justin Reaves, Marisa (Terry) Imus, Renee, Rachel and Anthony Del Toro; great granddaughter, Colette Imus; sisters Julia Borrero and Norma Silva; brother Raphael Renta; sister-in-law Pauline Duran; brother-in-law Orlie (Shirley) Del Toro Sr.; 19 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Virgil Del Toro Jr. (2010), her mother, Paulita Lao (1998) and her father, Gerson Borrero (1934). Jennie was born on August 1, 1934 during the Great Depression in New York, New York, to parents Gerson and Paulita Borrero. She grew up in various areas of Manhattan in New York City. She was blessed with an older sister, Julia, a younger brother, Raphael, and a younger sister, Norma. She attended Washington Irving High School, which was an all-female school. At the age of 19, during the summer of 1953, Jennie left New York with a group of friends bound for California to pursue a career in dancing. She was also going there to meet her boyfriend. Along the way, their beat-up old car broke down in Denver. While in Denver, some mutual friends introduced her to a very handsome young man by the name of Virgil Del Toro, Jr. Her travels to California ended in Denver, and her journey as a wife and a mother began. About one year later, Virgil and Jennie were married on July 11, 1954, in Denver. They had two children, Cynthia and Michael. Virgil and Jennie raised their family in West Denver residing at 410 Stuart Street for over 24 years. They lived in Littleton and Highlands Ranch for the remainder of their lives. Jennie held various jobs, including a telephone operator for the New York City Telephone Company, a soda fountain server at Rexall Drug Store, a janitorial position at Rose Medical in Denver, a cafeteria worker at the Denver Federal Center, a cashier at Furr's Cafeteria in Littleton and an inventory clerk for Washington Inventory Service in Denver. For many years she enjoyed volunteering at the annual Channel Six Auction. Like her father, Jennie was an amazing dancer. She taught several of her nieces and nephews the latest dance moves. She was still cutting a rug at the age of 79! Jennie loved her five grandchildren: Justin, Marisa, Renee, Rachel, and Anthony. She enjoyed attending all their sporting events, band concerts, choir concerts, school events and anything that they were involved in. In January 2014, she was blessed with her first great grandchild, Colette, and was able to see her a few times before passing. During her life, Jennie enjoyed trips to Black Hawk and the beautiful mountains of Colorado. She traveled to numerous places including: Las Vegas, Virginia, South Carolina, Washington, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Jennie was an accomplished artist. Many of her oil paintings are displayed in the homes of family and friends. She also loved to go to sporting events, especially the Denver Nuggets. She was also a true Denver Bronco fanatic. Jennie had many interests and hobbies including bowling, playing cards, reading, bingo, gambling, dancing, collecting Betty Boop Memorabilia, crocheting, watching TV, painting, macramé, and going to the movies. She lived her life to the fullest and will be deeply missed, but will live on forever in all our hearts.
