It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jennifer Felgate.
Jen, born in Sioux Falls, SD on August 5, 1964, passed away peacefully in Denver, Colorado, on March 24th, 2025, at the age of 60.
The youngest of eight siblings born to Don and Beth Felgate, Jen was affectionately known as “Jennifer Kay of the Milky Way” to the whole family. She was the youngest, and all of her siblings forever had a soft spot for their baby sister.
Jen graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA, in 1984. Life took the ever-adventurous Jen from Iowa to Oregon to California to Denver as she pursued her dreams.
Always quick with a joke or a sarcastic comment, Jen will be remembered as a loving and loyal sister, a hilarious and warmhearted aunt, a lover of animals and hater of crowds, and someone who unapologetically lived life on her own terms.
For the past 14 years, Jennifer served as a Program Officer for The Anschutz Foundation, where she played a vital role in directing grants to hundreds of Colorado nonprofits dedicated to helping those in need. With unwavering compassion and a deep commitment to service, she brought warmth and care to her work every day. Among the many organizations she championed, some of her favorites included We Don't Waste, Freedom Service Dogs, and the Second Chance Center.
Prior to finding her calling with the Anschutz Foundation, Jennifer wore many hats: hairdresser, hair product distributor, catering captain, and ice cream scooper!
Jennifer was a lifelong lover of animals, adopted a seemingly endless line of old, abandoned little dogs that she loved fiercely and brought with her everywhere, like it or not. First among these beloved pets was Boo, a gentle ball of white fluff who was her constant companion for nearly a decade.
To her many nieces and nephews, Jen was the quintessential “cool aunt,” happy to joke and bond over her huge family’s craziness. To the growing list of spouses and partners entering into the Felgate family, Jennifer was an immediate new friend, with her endless supply of irreverent asides. Though she hated large groups, Jennifer was a welcome addition to any party. She’d bring a delicious side dish, crack everybody up, and leave everyone wanting more before quietly disappearing into the night. She was also a lover of books and a great cook.
Before she decided on cremation, Jen had stated that she wished to be buried in jeans and her favorite Rolling Stones t-shirt, which will be proudly displayed at her memorial service.
Jennifer is survived by her five siblings:
Karen (Ed) Tangelder, Colette (Jeff) Felgate Boone, Steve (Robin) Felgate, Tom (Cindy) Felgate, Theresa (Ray) Felgate, and step-sister Kathy (Pete) Srsen, as well as twelve nieces and nephews. Jen was preceded in death by her father Donald Felgate, mother Beth Felgate, step father Lyle Srsen, brothers Donny Felgate and Paul (Dawn) Felgate.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to one of Jen’s favorite charities.
