Jerry L. Griffis was born on October 6, 1935 in Rochester, Indiana, and joined his Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 9, 2014 after a long battle with lung disease. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Beatrice, and by this brother Paul. His loving, caring spirit lives on in the love of his life, wife Jo Ann, son Bob (Vickie) and daughter Gayle Grandt; grandchildren Jason Griffis, Jeremy Griffis, Justin Griffis, John Grandt, Robert Grandt and Shelby Grandt, and his great grandchildren, Alex, Madison, Tyler, Adriana, Dakota, and McKenna Griffis, as well as nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Jerry grew up in Indiana and later moved to Arizona. He was a high school and college basketball standout, playing for Cottonwood High School and Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University.) He married Jo Ann in the spring of 1955, and then joined the Air Force where he served for 10 years. After his honorable discharge, he returned to college and obtained an accounting degree from Arizona State University. His love for the outdoors shined in many ways, from coaching little league baseball, to camping, teaching his grandchildren to fish, and golfing. He loved to watch his grandchildren in their athletic pursuits and watched many hockey, baseball, and softball games with Jo Ann. Although Jerry's activity was slowed in recent years, his passion for all things outdoors continued to fill his days. His strong guidance and sense of humor continue to bring comfort through the incredible memories his family members carry in their hearts. A remembrance Celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, 11:00 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada.
