Jerry Joe Hamill

Jerry Joe Hamill, 82, of Golden, passed on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Jerry was born to Robert and Opal Hamill on May 22, 1931 in Colby, Kansas and raised in Longmont, Colorado along with his sister, Joy (Hamill) Hester and brother, Jack Hamill. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947 and became a medic. He was honorably discharged in April 1953. Soon thereafter, he married Bernadette Steffes on December 27, 1953. Jerry achieved a Master's in Education at the University of Northern Colorado and taught for 30 years as a high school teacher at Wheat Ridge High School. Once retired, he enjoyed working at Ace Hardware for 17 years. Jerry loved family activities including camping every summer, and also met up with former students for lunch once a month. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bernadette; five children, daughter Vicki and her husband Mike, son Robert and his wife Jeannine, daughter Terri and her husband Randy, daughter Suzie and her husband Tommy, and daughter Jenny. He was a loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 5-6 PM followed by Resitation of the Rosary. Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10 AM. All services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 969 Ulysses Street, Golden. Committal Service will be Wednesday, April 9, 2014, 10:30 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area ""B"", 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver.
