Jerry J. Intorcio, age 83, beloved husband, father and brother passed away peacefully on October 18, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. At his side, were his three children. A Cleveland native, he graduated from Collinwood High School in February 1945. Soon thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. He was deployed to Japan where he served as a member of the U.S. Army Occupational Forces. Following two years of service to his country, he returned to Cleveland and enrolled at John Carroll University, where he majored in English. He was awarded his B.A. at John Carroll in 1951. In 1963, he began his career in teaching at Cleveland St. Joseph High School (VASJ). Mr. Intorcio taught English, journalism and Latin. He also served as the varsity golf coach â taking the team to the state tournament in the early 70's. Throughout his life, Jerry was also an accomplished musician and an accordionist. In 1966 he married Maureen, a Catholic School teacher, and the couple settled in Euclid, Ohio. A year later he moved his family to Willowick, where they raised their three children. After 26 years at St. Joseph, he retired from teaching and pursued his love of golf. At the age of 77 and more than 11 years after his wife Maureen's death, he relocated to Denver, Colorado to be near his daughter and son-in-law. Known and loved by his family for his positive attitude and sense of humor, Jerry's tenacity and resilience in the midst of serious health challenges is an inspiration to his loving family and all those who knew him. He was a dedicated member of the DAV, the American Legion, Local 4 of the American Federation of Musicians, and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors are: his son, Thomas, Edward, and Mary Jo (Eric) Gerd â all of Denver, Colorado; grandsons, Max and Charles; sister, Doris Pette and brother, Robert Intorcio.
