Jerry L. Kramer

Jerry Lee Kramer was born on December 10, 1949 in Holyoke, Colorado, the fifth child of Harry and Marjorie (Lookhart) Kramer. He attended Fairview Elementary School, a one-room school, before transferring to Wray. He graduated from high school in 1967. He attended college at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Jerry participated in track and field events while in elementary school. At one point he was county high jump champion. He participated in the Colorado All State Choir while he was in high school.

Most of Jerry’s working career was at Nationsway Transport, a trucking company, where he supervised a large office staff. He left the company on May 23, 1999, when the company went out of business.

Jerry spent a lot of time traveling with his friends and family. He had some memorable trips with his parents and spent vacation time traveling with Jack (his brother) and Bev. Sometimes his travel plans seemed a little strange. On one Sunday, he and a friend decided to drive to Grand Junction. When they arrived in Grand Junction they had a great idea to all the way to Las Vegas. So, they headed out, arrived in Las Vegas after ten or twelve hours, just in time to drive up and down the strip and head back to Denver, where they arrived just in time for him to go to work.

Jerry was very active in the theater for many years and performed a leading role in several community performances. He was also proficient as a vocalist, which he demonstrated in his theater performances.

Jerry spent a large part of his adult life battling rare autoimmune diseases. In spite of his condition, we remember him as full of energy and optimism. For example, he unselflishly cared for his mother, Marjorie, until her death on March 26, 2011. In fact, that was an example of his unselfish attitude, where he was always available to help anyone with anything any time.

Jerry was a very curious person, and was never satisfied until he thoroughly understood the subject at hand. He diligently watched Jeopardy every week and took pride in the number of “question” he was able to figure out before the actual contestants. Most of us would not want to challenge him in his Jeopardy expertise.

Jerry was especially fond of the many family gatherings and could be seen spending long hour talking with his many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was the grand champion of conversation. No one else even came close! And if you wanted to compete, you needed to stay up until he was finished. Are you at your best at around two or three in the morning? He was! When everyone else was winding down, he was just getting started.

He kept track of the extended family and was able to accurately catalog each family member and how they fit within the family tree. This was quite a job, since the extended family is quite large, close to 100!

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marjorie Kramer, grandparents, Orval and Ethel Lookhart andRobert and Anna Kramer and infant brother, Floyd.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his family: his brother, Jack and wife Bev, brother Judd and wife Pat, sister Judy and husband Dick, brother Jay, sister Janice and husband Tony, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
