Jerry Joe York

York, Jerry Joe, 63 of Littleton, CO, passed away suddenly on January 2nd, 2009 upon return from a short vacation to Hawaii with his wife Carrie. Jerry was the successful founder and president of York Engineering Services, a consulting engineering firm in Denver, CO for more than 30 years. During his career, he practiced aeronautical, mechanical, structural and civil engineering work at Martin Marietta, KKBNA and at his own firm. Jerry was a certified Professional Engineer, and over the course of his career he was licensed in the states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Washington, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Florida. His time as an engineer has been marked by his role in several well known projects in and around Denver and throughout the Western United States. Some of his best known work includes: · The roof system for the former McNichols Arena · Structural Engineering of the Vail Ice Arena, · Civil and Structural engineering of the Vail Public Library, · The structural design of the roof for the Moscow Stadium in Idaho, · The original renovation and expansion of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and · Mechanical and structural engineering of projects at Highland Hills Water World and Celebrity Sports Center. In addition to his work as a Professional Engineer, Jerry was dedicated to community service. During his time in Littleton, CO, Jerry became associated with Congressman Dan Schaffer and was appointed by Dan to serve on the Board of Directors for Foothills Parks and Recreation District. Jerry served on the Board of Directors for 11 years, and served as the Board President from 1982 to 1984. During his tenure as a Director, Foothills underwent a tremendous expansion of facilities and services offered to the Southwest Denver community. Some of the more notable projects included: · The opening of ""The Meadows"" Golf Course, · The opening of the Lilly Gulch recreation and community center, · Design and construction of the well known Clement Park, and · Expansion of public park facilities, numerous sports fields and public recreational facilities throughout Jefferson and Arapahoe Counties. Most dear to Jerry was his family, but he had other passions as well, including a love for music. Jerry was an accomplished horn player, having played trumpet and trombone over the course of his musical career. Jerry also had the honor of playing with several notable jazz musicians, including Nancy Wilson and Doc Severenson, while still in college. Jerry also had a passion for golf, as demonstrated by his annual trips to test the links at Myrtle Beach. His passion went beyond playing, as he taught several of his children and grandchildren, how to play as well. Jerry was also enthusiastic about other interests and was accomplished in many of them including skiing, flying, scuba diving, boating, model aircraft building/piloting, and woodworking. Jerry is survived by his wife, Carrie, his children, Jessica Lynn, Brian Randall (Teresa), Heather Lynn (Jim), and Wendy Lee (Keith) and his sisters, Judy Pennetti and Sandi Shaver. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Spencer, Trevor, Kelsey, Andrew, Autumn and Aidan. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM on January 7th in the Chapel of Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Blvd. Littleton, CO 80126. Following this service there will be an Open House at the family home located at 8124 W. Hoover Ave. Littleton, CO, 80123.
