Jewell Banfield

Jewell M. Banfield,100, of Wheat Ridge, Co. died Tuesday, June 20th, at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge.

Born November 16, 1922 in Slater, MO, she was the daughter of the late Flem Thornton and Nellie Miller Thornton. Jewell worked in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon during WW two. She married Alfred Banfield, a U.S. marine, who preceded her in death on July 15th, 2002. 

They moved to Colorado to start a family in 1945. Jewell was an employee of the Denver Civil Service Commission for a number of years.

She enjoyed gardening, painting, crafting, jewelry making and being a member of the Colorado Clown Association. Her centenary was highlighted by a party attended by many friends and family. She was a vibrant, active member of the Mountain Vista Independent Senior Community and was much beloved by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters Theresa, Ann, Evelyn Banfield and son Raymond Banfield; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Ralph Thornton and three children; Loretta, Sheila and David Banfield.
