Jim Young McGregor

Jim Young McGregor, 64, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away May 20, 2018 due to complications from pneumonia. He was born May 11, 1954 in Los Angeles, California to James Young and Marjorie Jane Welch McGregor. He was the oldest of three sons. At age 19, Jim served a 2 year proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Venezuela. Throughout his lifetime, Jim loved learning about the Gospel and the life of Jesus Christ. He is an alumnus of Brigham Young University and University of Texas. He received his Doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College and practiced medicine as a Doctor of Chiropractic for 35 years. He married his sweetheart Cindy Jane Harrell in 1977 in the Oakland, California LDS Temple. They raised 5 children. Jim was an extremely smart man and known as “the walking encyclopedia” because of his love for learning. He was a competitive swimmer for many years and both he and his brothers swam for the Santa Clara Swim Club. Jim was a talented musician, excelling in the bagpipes and guitar, and was an avid reader. He learned to speak Spanish fluently and loved learning about astronomy, history, science, and world cultures. He also dedicated many years of his life to learning about his ancestry and family heritage. He loved camping and kayaking with his family, making homemade tacos and homemade ice cream. He loved singing, listening to and playing music. He took joy in the simple things in life. Jim was a great man, he fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith. Loved by many and known by all that were close to him as a very kind, gentle, happy and friendly man. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; their 5 children; Rachel (Shane King), Kristen, Jared (Michelle Hodson), Nathan (Sarah Dial) and Heather; and 11 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Marjorie McGregor and his brothers, Gerald Mark McGregor and Joel Blaine McGregor. A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7405 S. Addison Court, Aurora, CO 80015. A viewing will be held at the Church from 5:00-5:45 pm. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah.
