Joan M. Bielmaier

Joan M. Bielmaier (nee Clancy), age 88, passed away peacefully July 1, 2018. She was born April 10, 1930 in Canova, South Dakota to Margaret and Thomas Clancy and spent her formative years on the family farm near Madison, South Dakota. She was a long time resident of Littleton and Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Lt. Edward D. Smith, brothers Donald Clancy and Emmett Clancy, her sister Patricia Leiferman and son Timothy J. Smith.

Later in life, she married William J. Bielmaier of Wall, South Dakota. They later separated and remained so when she passed away. She is also survived by her brother James P. Clancy of Centennial, Colorado and her son Steven E. Smith of Naperville, Illinois as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joan was devoted to her family as was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Mark Catholic Church.

She received her bachelors and masters degrees from South Dakota State University and spent a long career as a high school teacher, primarily at Littleton High School. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and playing bridge. Her pottery and paintings can be found in the homes of friends and family. Joan also loved to travel with some of her desitinations including Thailand, Hong Kong, Spain and her ancestral home in Ireland.

A rosary vigil will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122.

Her funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 9905 Foothills Canyon Blvd., Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. Interment will follow at the Gardens at Horan & McConaty. Following interment, a reception will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church. Those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers are encouraged to make a donation to the charity of their choice in Joan’s name.
