Joan Maureen (Sherman) Daniel was born on September 18, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Val W. Sherman and Dorothy I. (Mitchell) Sherman, and passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Serenity House Assisted Living in Centennial, CO, at the age of 87.
Joanâs passion, besides being a devoted wife to her husband Marv for 45 years and a âspecialâ and beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews and their children, was music. While in her twenties Joan performed with the Chicago Musical College in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Denver in the 1950âs Joan performed with the Denver Postâs Opera Company/musicals, The Central City Chorus, The Colorado Choir, The Classic Chorale, The âUnited Airesâ and The Denver Symphony Orchestra Chorus and had the privilege of performing at such venues as the Aspen Music Festival, The Central City Opera House, and the Grand Teton Music Festival with Zubin Mehta. Joan also sang with the Holy Ghost Catholic Church Choir for 30 years.
Joan traveled extensively throughout the world with her husband Marv. both of them belonged to the Silverado Travel Club. Also, Joan loved her book club, discussing books but, âmore importantly, sipping wineâ.
Joan worked for the Boy Scouts of America and for many years with the City of Denver in the Vital Records department where she retired. Joan was also a member of Risen Christ Catholic Church in Denver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marv Daniel; her brother, Bill Sherman; sister, Mary Ellen Johnson; brothers-in-law, Lewis Johnson and Harlan F. Daniel; nephews, Harlan F. Daniel Jr. and Brian J. Daniel.
She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Helga Daniel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard & Allison Sherman, Mike & Lori Sherman, Mitch & Jan Sherman; nieces and nephews, great and grand, Bruce & Linda Daniel, Claudia Gill, Jason & Cricket Daniel, Gabe &
Suzanne Daniel, Sarah & Daniel Smith, Remy & Scott Reese, Dory Daniel, Sarah Lynch, Melissa & Jake Richardson, Bill Sherman & Julianne Graut, Debbie & Ed Rojas, Diana Sherman & Bob Genoway, Tim & Stephanie Johnson, Colleen Aspinwall, Cathleen & Jeff Zietz, Chris Sherman, Stacey Russo, Ben Sherman, and Chris & Alyssa Mahoney; In addition, numerous friends and coworkers.
A recitation of the rosary will be conducted at 6:00PM on Friday, October 26, 2018 in the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel,
1091 S. Colorado Blvd., with a visitation to follow until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1900 California St. Denver CO 80202 with a reception to follow. A committal service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 10:00 AM. All those wishing to attend should assemble at staging area, ""A"" by 9:45 AM.
