On August 18, 1934, Joan Kathern (Kowalski) deFluiter was born to John and Arnetta Kowalski. She and her sister Carolyn grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Joan met her future husband, Franklin LeRoy deFluiter (Lee), at Adelphian Academy. They were married on December 30, 1956.
Joan loved to play the piano. She played for fun in her home, taught students and was a regular pianist at her church. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved being with them, talking to them and telling anyone interested about them. She and Lee traveled all over the US in their motor home. She loved animals. Most of her life she had a dog that she took on daily walks. She loved watching the local birds at the feeders outside the kitchen window.
Joan passed away on January 23, 2025.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents John and Arnetta Kowalski and her husband Lee. She is survived by two children, Larry deFluiter and Susan (deFluiter) Barton; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Joan’s memorial service will be Saturday February 8, 2025, at 4pm at the Franktown, Seventh-day Adventist church in Franktown, Colorado.
