Joan M Godshall, age 93, died unexpectedly in Lakewood, Colorado, on May 20, 2024. Joan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 2, 1930. She was the second of four children of James and Kathryn (Fritz) Mallon. Joan graduated from Gwynedd Mercy Academy in 1948 where, in addition to academics, she played basketball and the trombone and piano. Joan went on to work for what she called “the telephone company.” It was during this time that Joan met and married her late husband, Robert “Bob” Godshall. Together they raised nine children. Joan and Bob lived in several cities before a job transfer brought them to Lakewood in 1978.
Joan enjoyed bowling and was an avid dancer. After flirting with tap dancing, she found a home in square dancing and danced with the Square Halos for many years. Joan was also a woman of deep faith and volunteered at her parish church, Christ on the Mountain, in several capacities. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob (1998), her son David (2023), and her brother James Mallon. Joan is survived by eight children: Robert S. Godshall, Deborah Godshall (Kent Singer), Frank Godshall, JoAnn Rojas (Rafael Rojas-Reyes), John Godshall, Mark Godshall (Marisol), Catherine Baski (Keith), and Tom Godshall (Lorinda). Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include Rebecca, Renee Lynn, Rafael, Kaycie, Rob, Robert J., Joseph, Alyssa, Sophie, and Kash. Joan is also survived by two sisters, Kit Benson and Marie Worden, of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. Joan’s good friend and square dance partner, Clarence (Andy) Anderson, also survives her.
Joan will be greatly missed by family and friends. Please join us in celebrating her life. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, at 11:00 a.m., at Christ on the Mountain Church, 13922 W Utah Ave, Lakewood. Funeral services will be preceded by a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and a rosary at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow funeral services at the church at noon. Joan will be interred at Ft Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Joan’s faith can be honored with donations to Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church.
Please share memories and condolences with Joan's family by signing the guestbook.Tuesday, June 4, 2024
