Joan Curtis Sims

Joan Curtis Sims, 80 years of age, recently of Lakewood. Passed away on October 14, 2011. Joan was born in Denver and raised in Boulder. She attended the Univ. of Colorado and was a passionate supporter and fan of her beloved Buffs. She proudly worked as a docent at the Denver and St. Louis zoos. Joan is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Rex Sims. She is survived by her children Steve (Yolanda) Sims, Polly (Mike) Zimmerman, Tom (Jennifer) Sims; 7 grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Sally Brown. Joan was a dedicated wife and mother. She was always room mother, team mother & PTA president. Her life was focused on her children. Once they were grown up she was able to work, travel and volunteer as a docent at both the Denver Zoo and the St. Louis Zoo. She greatly enjoyed sharing her love and knowledge of animals, especially gorillas, with zoo visitors. Because of this passion we are asking that donations go to the Denver Zoo. A Memorial Service for Joan will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado. A Committal Service will be held at 9:00am on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado, Staging Area A.
