Joan C. Welch

Joan C. Welch, 87 years old, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at her home in Denver, Colorado. She was enduringly surrounded by her family. Joan was born September 1926 in Longmont, Colorado to John and Alice Casey. She was the youngest of 4 lovely girls. Joan grew up in Eaton, Colorado, with her sisters - Kathleen Hazard, Clara Lou Bascom and Sister Mary Julie Casey. She graduated from Eaton High School with the Class of 1944. After 2 years at Georgetown Visitation Junior College, Joan returned to Colorado and graduated from the University of Denver in 1948. This is when she met her sweetheart, Vern Welch. Married for 51 years, Joan and Vern raised their 5 children, John Welch, Mike Welch, Scott Welch, Mary Whitney and Trish Cousins in Denver and then Aurora, Colorado. Joan was an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and P.E.O. Chapter DJ Sisterhood. After retirement she and Vern enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States and abroad. A woman of faith with a true enjoyment of life, Joan loved to spend time with her family and especially her six grandchildren, Michele', Lindsey, Michael, MacKenzie, Cole and Georgia. Joan cared for her family and friends through delicious cooking, wonderful sewing projects, and with her love for gardening. Throughout her life she won the hearts of many, who even now are changed by her constant nurturing love. Her gift of faith and joy will never be forgotten. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 in the morning at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 E. Kentucky Ave., Aurora, CO 80012. A reception at the church will be held immediately following the Funeral Mass. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont, Colorado.
