Joann Fern

Joann Bridget Fern passed away on March 11th 2021 in Centennial Colorado, due to
complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Joann was born March 20th, 1935 in Garfield Heights
Ohio, to Harry and Ellen Dempsey. She graduated from Marymount High School in 1953 and
proceeded to St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1956. She
spent 33 years as a Registered Nurse at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio
working in the Emergency Room and then the Obstetrics Unit.

After retirement she enjoyed traveling the United States in an R.V. with her husband of 62
years, Raymond Fern.

Joann led a life of service to others. She was an active member of the Church of St. Francis of
Assisi, where she served in the Women’s Guild (Bereavement Committee). She was always
willing to bake a special treat and bring a comforting presence to those suffering the grief of a
lost loved one. She volunteered with the Craft and Sewing Club, creating handmade items to
raise funds for the church and also helped with the Food Pantry.

Joann’s love of animals was present throughout the years. She greatly enjoyed spending time
with family pets.

Joann is survived by her children; Christopher Raymond Fern, Nancy Ann Fern, Betty Jane
Canfield and Keith Thomas Fern and her grandchildren; Dillon Canfield, Alisha Adams, and
Trevor Fern.

Joann was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ellen Fern and her husband Raymond
William Fern. 

A Funeral Mass for both Joann & Raymond Fern will take place on Friday May 28th 2021 at 11:00AM at Horan & McConaty - Aurora.
