JoAnn Hjelle

JoAnn, 75, passed away March 3, 2009. JoAnn is survived by her children, Stephen, Valerie, Eric, Curtis and Cheryl; grandchildren, Brenna, Garrett, Robert, Tressa and Alexander; sisters, Mavis and Leah; and a very large, loving extended family. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas; parents, Leo and Tressa; and her sister, Lois. JoAnn was a key figure in the community with her extensive involvement in arts, education, politics and her church. She was a dedicated piano teacher of 45 years and a public school teacher of 30 years. She was a proud supporter of the Broncos and the Rockies, as well as an avid traveler, golfer and skier. Visitation, Thursday, March 5, 2009, 5-7 PM followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7 PM both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (just one block to the west Holly Street), in Centennial. Funeral Mass, Friday, March 6, 2009, at 11 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street, in Centennial. Burial follows at 1:30 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Area ""B"", 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, in Denver. Donations in JoAnn's honor to benefit the Lakota Sioux Children on the Rosebud Reservation may be made to the St. Francis Mission, P.O. Box 499, St. Francis, SD 57572-0499.
