Joanne Montgomery

Joanne Montgomery, Age 85, passed into eternal rest on October 25, 2018.

Born October 31, 1932 in Long Beach, California, Joanne and her family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she grew up. She graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1953 and worked at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City. In 1954 she moved to Denver with Friends from nurses training and worked at Denver Children's Hospital until 1970, followed by another 25 years in pediatric private practice.

She met Jim Montgomery in 1958 at a Cathedral Club Halloween Dance. They were married on June 18, 1960. Cathy arrived in July, 1961. Mike in January 1963 and Pat in January 1965. After 51 years of marriage, Joanne lost Jim in February 2011. Joanne continued their tradition of strong faith and service to the Catholic Church throughout her life. She was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother to nine grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to one great-grand-daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

Survivors include children, Catherine (Mark) Nitchman, Michael (Lynn Barta) Montgomery, and Patrick (Nancy) Montgomery; grandchildren Joseph (Duangjai) and Thomas Nitchman, Madeline, Caroline, Evan and Megan Montgomery, Brendan (Amanda), Taryn and Travis Montgomery; great-granddaughter, Elinor Nitchman and brother Henry (Mary) Boecker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Montgomery, and parents Henry and Agnes Boecker.
