Joanne I. (Bates) Smith beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Joanne was born in Denver on September 2, 1928 to Eva and Arthur Bates. She attended St. John’s, Emmaus, Skinner Junior High and North High Schools.

She worked at Mountain Bell for several years. Then was Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer at Emmaus Credit Union for over 40 years. Dedicating much of her time to Emmaus Mission guild and Emmaus Memorial Committee.

She married Charles Smith on April 28, 1956. They had two daughters along with his two sons from a previous marriage. Unfortunately, this union ended on March 12, 1984 upon the death of Chuck.

Joanne enjoyed gardening, the Rockies and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara, stepsons Bob and Tom, and grandsons, John and Jessee.

She is survived and mourned by her sister, Claudine (Jim), daughters, Karen and Kathy (Jamie), daughters-in-law, Marj and Bonnie (Alan), grandchildren, Katie (Bill), Jeff (Nicole), Jennifer (Geoff), Kari (Shane), Kelli (Scott), and James, great-grandchildren, Kylie, Norah, Michael, Gus, Zeke, Brooke, Aubrielle, Madelyn, Jayden, Colton, Olivia and Jace, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Wheat Ridge Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8600 W. 38th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
