Everyone knew and loved her as Tate. It means Grandmother in Lebanese. Joanne Steinback was born on Christmas Day in 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa to Fred and Emily Alberts. Joanne was their only child and was loved dearly by her parents. Fred, her father came from Lebanon to America through Ellis Island when he was a young boy. Father Yanney, Joanneâs grandfather, was a Lebanese-American Priest who founded St. Thomas Orthodox Church, a little over 100 years ago in Sioux City. The parish was her house of worship and the place that her community gathered to honor the rich traditions and cultures of their heritage. Joanne regularly attended Sunday services with her parents and grew up in a loving, supportive, tightly knit community. Joanne met Jack after getting her teaching degree from Morningside College in Sioux City. Soon after they married, Jana their only child was born. Jack and Joanne followed their dreams and relocated from Sioux City to Green Mountain in Lakewood, Colorado. Joanne and Jack were extremely fond of horses. They started the Ski Country horse shows in Colorado which preceded the National Stock Show. Jana rode professionally and competed in many horseshows in Colorado and neighboring states. Joanne had an interest in politics and volunteered in fund raising and supporting candidates in the local and national elections. Jack and Joanne planned and had a beautiful wedding for their daughter and son-in-law, Reza, in 1984. Tate was proud of Reza and loved him like her own son. The happiest days of her life were spent with her daughter. Joanne lived with her daughter and son-in-law after the passing of her husband in 2012. Her love and admiration for Jana was beyond compare. When her grandchildren, Jasmin and Cameron were born, she helped Jana raise them with pure love and devotion. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spoiling them and showering them with sweetness and kindness. Tateâs actions truly shaped Jasmin and Cameron and made them into the wonderful grandchildren they are today. Tateâs love for others was far reaching as Janaâs friends considered her their mother as well. She was gentle, generous and an angel that lived amongst us. She will be deeply missed by all. May her memory be eternal.
