Joel Potter

October 2, 1970 — February 26, 2019

Joel Potter, of Lone Tree Colorado, an extraordinarily kind man, adored husband, son, brother, step-dad, uncle and friend, died February 26th at Skyridge Medical Center after a 4-day stay with hemolytic anemia. He was 48.

Joel was born in Montpelier, Ohio to his best friends, James and Augusta Potter. After moving to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Tennessee, Joel settled in Parker and then Lone Tree Colorado. He received his degree from Colorado State University, and worked in collections and telecommunications. On August 16, 2014, he married the love of his life, Carmen Salas. Joel was both step-father and friend to Carmen's sons Aaron, Matthew and Christopher. Joel was also the wisest and most fun uncle ever to his sister, Michelle Potter and brother-in-law John Chaloupka's sons, Reid and Cole Chaloupka.

At 28, Joel was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease and then several years after that, with lymphoma. Although the radiation and chemotherapy took a toll on Joel's health, not once did he let it define him nor did he ever feel sorry for himself. He was the perfect example of someone living every day like it might be his last. He was passionate about riding dirt bikes and spent many weekends at Rampart Range. He never missed a Wide Spread Panic concert, Pittsburgh Steeler game, and got extra rest, napping in between the first and last 30 NASCAR laps. He was religious about attending and cheering on his step-children and nephew's sporting events. His goofy Portuguese water dog, Popeye, was the happiest dog on earth.

Joel was a generous spirited, compassionate man with a wicked sense of humor, ornery grin and hearty laugh. He had a long tradition of opening his Lone Tree home up to anyone in transition or down on their luck, with a place on the couch, plenty of comforting meals, a shot of Crown, a non-judgmental ear and plenty of laughs. In turn, he was absolutely cherished by a fabulous and eclectic group of friends in addition to his wife and family.

In keeping with Joel's fun loving personality, a celebration honoring his spirt will be held on June 15, 2019. Pickles, olives and mustard will be prohibited at his celebration.

His memory is our blessing. Rest in Peace, Joel Potter
