Johanna F. Egidi

August 20, 1925 — March 23, 2019

Johanna Bianchi Egidi

Born: Trafford, PA, August 20, 1925

Died: Denver, CO, March 23, 2019

Johanna was born to Italian-Catholic immigrant parents in 1925. They resided in the Pittsburgh area. From age 9, Johanna dreamed of being a nurse. She attended St. Francis Nursing School in Pittsburgh. During WWII, Johanna trained in the Cadet Nurse Corps. The war ended before she graduated, but she held that being part of the Corps as one of her greatest accomplishments.

After WWII, Johanna lived in New York City with relatives. While there she met her childhood acquaintance, Vincent Egidi. They fell in love and were married in 1952. They moved to New Jersey and had a son, Philip Vincent in 1955. Vinny was an auto mechanic and Johanna worked as a RN. During this time, Johanna's brother, Jerry came to live with the Egidi's. He spent 10 years with them and was like a son to them. Jerry married Marie Bianchi in 1968 and a few years later was the first of the family to migrate to Denver. In 1965, Johanna and Vinny had a second child, Carol Ann. Johanna and Vinny dedicated their years to raising and taking care of our very special Carol. Also, in 1965 Johanna raised a nephew from birth to almost one year of age along with Carol until the family could take him back and raise him themselves. She was truly selfless.

Johanna and Vinny retired and moved to Colorado in 1987 to be near family, many of whom now call Colorado home. Vinny passed in 1995 and Johanna kept taking care of Carol herself and continued to live an active life through her senior years.

Johanna was very active in her later years. She was a tap-dancer until just a couple of years ago. She exercised frequently and loved going to Rockies games. She never missed an opening day game or the last home game of the season until just last year. Johanna traveled the world, sometimes by herself, other times with friends. Johanna was an amazing cook, and many family meals were had at her table. She drove until just a few months ago. Johanna suffered a heart attack over Christmas, and was diagnosed with cancer in January. She was never in pain and was proud of the life she led.

Johanna was loved by her family and her friends. She had no enemies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Philip, brothers John (Marge), William (Angie), Elizabeth (Ray), and sister Lillian (Philip).

She is survived by her son, Philip Vincent (Tammy), daughter Carol Ann, and granddaughter Laura Elizabeth and grandson Brandon Vincent, her brother Gerald Joseph (Marie), and numerous nieces and nephews.
