John I. Baker, Jr. was born in Sterling, Kansas on July 9, 1938 to John Ira Baker and Viola Ellen (Allison) Baker, and passed away in Arvada, Colorado on November 10, 2018 at age 80. John was married to Esther (Austin) Baker on June 9, 1957 in Lyons, Kansas, and had celebrated 61 years of marriage at the time of his passing. He attended college at Emporia State Teacher's College, Kansas State, and CU Boulder. A design engineer, he worked for Jeppesen & Co., Denver & Coors Porcelain, and then retired after 33 years with A.R. Wilfley & Sons. John was an active community member. He volunteered for the Colorado Division of Wildlife for 15 years, where he was awarded ""Grand Volunteer"" 2003, 2004, and 2005 with a total of over 3000 hours for these 3 years. He was a recipient of the DOW ""Directors Award of Excellence"", and was involved with the Colorado Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Rocky Mountain Road Runners; working with the Denver Marathon and the Boulder Bolder where he designed the finish line. He was Treasurer for the Golden Gun Club, Pleasant View Metro Board Director, and Volunteer Fireman for Pleasant View Fire Department. John was an active member of Wellspring Bible Church where he served in various positions. He later was affiliated with Table Mountain Baptist Church. Besides helping others he enjoyed going to Bronco games, hunting, entering contests, yard work and wood working. He always loved being with family.
John is survived by his wife Esther, his son John I. Baker, III and his wife Carol, grandchildren Courtney Kinnison and her husband Casey and John William Baker and his wife Erin. He is also survived by his sisters Kay Price and her children, David Carmichael and Emily Price, and Jane Mead, and her children Melissa and Sandy Mead.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11AM, Monday, November 26th at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue in Arvada. Following the Memorial Service, a reception will take place at the funeral home reception center. Private Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
