John S. Castellano (73) of Denver died November 10, 2011. Beloved husband of 50 years to Mary Anne, loving father to Gerylann (Robert), Johnny (Christi) and Eddie. The Best ""Pop"" to grandchildren Camden, Daley, Noemi and Chillum. Brother of Benedict (Barbara), Mary Lynn (Jim) and Favorite Uncle to Kathy (Jimmy), Tony (Kathleen), David (Rebecca), Michael (Mina), Eddie (Jamie). John was preceded in death by parents Vincent and Anna. John graduated from Regis High School in Denver and received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Catholic University in Washington DC. John was incredibly accomplished not only as a prominent attorney and partner at Holland and Hart for over 30 years, but also as a pioneer devoted to community service. He was the recipient of many notable awards: Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award Denver Decade Award - City of Denver Adult Learning Source Chairman and Volunteer Award Colorado Outstanding Individual - Partners in Education St. Thomas More Award - Catholic Lawyers Guild Mayor Pena Proclamation making November 29, 1990, John S. Castellano Day. John also received the Award of Merit from the Denver Bar Association and was listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America over 10 times. John was the former president and True Lion of the Denver Bar Association. He founded the Lincoln Park Scholars program for At-risk kids at Greenlee Elementary in 1988 and it is still running successfully today. He dedicated his life to helping others and had a true passion for education. John was a Master Gardener and a wine aficionado. All day Visitation, Thursday, November 17, Rosary at 7pm, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Funeral Mass, Friday, 10 am Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy.
