John Marshall Corgan, Jr.

December 9, 1926 — November 1, 2017

John Marshall (Marsh) Corgan, Jr., of Broomfield, Colorado died peacefully in Greenwood Village, Colorado, on November 1, 2017 at the age of 90. Marsh is survived by his children, Rebecca (Edward) Paul, and John (Sherrie) Marshall III; grandchildren, Aerianne Paul (Christopher) Walton, Emily Corgan (Nathan) Palmer and Alex (Haley) Corgan, as well as two great-grandchildren, Hailee and Ryan Walton. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Miriam who passed away in 2015. Marsh was born December 9, 1926, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Texas A&M University, in Bryan, Texas, in 1948, with a degree in Physics, then he earned his Master of Science degree from Tulsa University. Marsh married Miriam Linda Atkins, his hometown sweetheart, in 1950, then went back to Texas A&M to work on a PhD and to teach. While there, Rebecca and John were born. Marsh worked for Douglas Aircraft and later Lockheed Aircraft, before earning an assistant professorship in Physics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He returned to the aerospace industry at Ball Aerospace, involved with design work on the OSO (Orbiting Solar Observatory) satellites, solar observation experiments for Skylab, and later, aluminum can design for the company's container division. Marsh's military service included duty with the US Army in WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. Marsh’s children remember him as a loving father who encouraged academic excellence. He raised his children to love and serve God through attendance at Broomfield's First Methodist Church and, later, First Evangelical Free Church. Marsh and Miriam also later attended Broomfield First Baptist Church. Marsh loved to laugh, and reinforced traditions through spirited retelling of tales from his own youth and family history, although sometimes he'd laugh so hard, he couldn't finish a story. A Memorial Service with military honors is scheduled for 8:45 AM on Friday, November 10th at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80212. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale DTC and Brookdale Greenwood Village for their dedication and care over the last few years.
