John Patrick Delohery

John Patrick Delohery was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 24, 1936, to Martin and Margaret Delohery both of Kilkee, Ireland in County Clare. He was the youngest of five children and spent some of his youth in Chicago before moving to Denver, Colorado.

He joined the Army National Guard in 1953 and rose to the rank of Personnel Sergeant serving with the 169th Artillery battery before eventually going through Medic training and becoming a First Sergeant serving at Fitzsimmons Army Medical base in Aurora, CO. He retired from the National Guard in 1978 after 25 years of service.

He met and married Laurel Jean Cann in 1957 and they adopted two children, Amy Maureen, born in 1962 and Kevin Patrick born in 1964. They eventually divorced in 1974.

Delohery graduated in 1972 from Regis University with a degree in Business Administration and became a proud and loyal donor to the institution for the rest of his life.

After graduating from Regis, he applied for a job with the State of Colorado as a Research Assistant where he found success and moved his way up to Senior Appraiser for the Department of Property Taxation where he valued many large companies including railroads and phone companies to assess their tax obligations. He served as President of the Colorado Association of Tax Appraisers in 1979 and 1980 and he retired from Colorado State Government in 1992 after 31 years of service.

John was very community minded, and it brought him joy to serve in many capacities. In 1990 he became involved with the Credit Union of Colorado where he served as Board Chairman from 2001 - 2005. He also served for many years with the Lions Club where he served as Northglenn, CO Club President from 1984-1985 and was recognized as “Lion of the Year” in 1991. He enjoyed the distinction of being the first civilian to become Chairman of the Adams County Community Corrections Board and, late in life he continued his legacy of service by joining and serving as President of the management board of the Condominiums where he resided for many years.

He was very proud of his Irish heritage and made frequent trips to Ireland over the years with family and friends. He was also an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies, travelling for many years to watch to spring training camp games and regularly enjoying watching televised games and attending in-person at Coors Field as often as possible.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Margaret, his brother Martin Delohery (Dorothy) his brother Joseph Delohery (Beverly) his sisters, Margaret (Peggy) (Harry Morgan), Mary (James Carter) and his nephew Paul Morgan.
