John Salvatore DiMatteo, age 95, passed away on December 12, 2020. Born in Denver, CO, he was the third of four children, Anthony (Dorothy Rogan), Josephine (Ken Payne) and Frances (Dick Siem), of Salvatore and Mary (Pergola) DiMatteo. Following graduation from North High School, John joined the U.S. Navy. He was an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class during World War II and plank owner of the USS Jason (AR 8). He served in the Pacific repairing battle damaged ships and post war conducted port calls in Korea and China.
After the war, John met Mary Bohte at Daniels & Fisher Tower where they both worked. John and Mary were married for 71 years and raised a loving family. John had a long and successful career with Western Electric. He served as treasurer for the Western Electric Credit Union and was an active member of the Pioneers. He was a member of Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife, Mary, sons John and Edward of Lakewood, CO, daughter Carol Litvinas (Anthony) of Woodbridge, VA, and daughter Ann Hoban (Michael) of Glenwood Springs. He is fondly remembered by five grandchildren -- Nichole Fitzgerald (Jay), Anthony Litvinas Jr. (Eryn), Matthew Litvinas (Natalie), Michael Hoban (Lauren), and John Hoban. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, his sister, Frances, many nieces and nephews, and wonderful neighbors and friends.
Services for John will be at St. Catherine of Siena on Wednesday December 23, 2020, viewing at 9 AM, rosary at 9:30 AM followed by funeral Mass at 10 AM. Private interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USO in memory of John.
